All arrangements are made. I have my bags packed. We leave on Saturday! Another season of food, fun, and open road is in store for the Hoerath clan. This summer we are hitting Europe for an extended visit.
Unfortunately for readers who enjoy my humor and cultural commentary I will not be the primary poster anymore. Everyone in the Hoerath group will have equal access to post and edit this new blog. It is meant to stay up year after year and be added to each season or as each of us goes on trips. This trip in many ways is our biggest adventure yet.
Lauren and I are pumped right now. We finished up school on May 28 and I had graduation to attend the next morning. Our first week of summer has been busy planning and running last minute errands. Its incredibly hot here (93 f today)... and my poppies that I planted last year are finally blooming. Right now I have three giant oriental poppies in the backyard fully open. I am sore from playing basketball with Curt, Sam, Barrett, and Jim the last few days. I managed to set off some tennis elbow or something. It is driving me nuts. The other thing I did the last few days was buy some sweet swim trunks. Don't worry ... you will get to see pics of them when i'm on the beach in a few weeks! I also bought a new pair of POPE PANTS!!!! (zip off pants that become shorts).....The big change between last trip and this one is I will will be carrying the DSLR camera that I bought Lauren for Christmas this year. I had looked for a skintight mesh tank top and speedo to ear on the beach ( I desperately want to fit in socially) but it didn't work out. Maybe next trip.
So far I've used it more than her but she is learning. It should make for some great pics. For those curious here is what I have packed for my own 6 week journey.
5 pairs of socks
5 pairs of underwear
1 dress shirt (also going to be used as sweatshirt and rain jacket?)
3 moisture wicking T-shirts
3 graphic T-shirts
1 pair of khakis
3 pairs of shorts
1 pope pants!!!
1 swimsuit
sandals, shoes, clothesline, pocket towel, toothbrush, deoderant, toothpaste, shaver, camera bag, pocket pillow, back meds, that is it.
Rumor has it Jim is only bringing one pair of heavy duty underwear that he can wash .....everyday.... I hear he likes to pack light.

I have bought travel undies which claim you can do europe in 2 pair....
i have FOUR and some normal boxers to go with them. I still fit in my original pope pants....so unlike 7 ...i didn't get new ones.
we are all excited and ready to go!
